Onur Erzan will become chief executive officer of AllianceBernstein on April 1, 2027, adding the CEO role to his current position as president. Seth Bernstein will retire as CEO on March 31 and remain on AllianceBernstein’s board.
The handover gives the global investment manager a defined runway for leadership continuity. Erzan joined AllianceBernstein in 2021 after two decades at McKinsey, became head of private wealth management in 2022 and was named president in January. His current remit already covers strategy and corporate development, private wealth management, global asset-management distribution and global private alternatives.
An insider with a broader operating brief
InvestmentNews reported the appointment on September 25 and described Erzan’s background across asset management and insurance. He also sits on Equitable Holdings’ management committee, a relationship that links the transition to AB’s parent company while keeping the appointment centered on the investment manager.
PLANADVISER noted that AllianceBernstein had 919 billion dollars in assets under management as of August 31. Erzan said clients are seeking deeper partnerships, broader capabilities and more integrated solutions; that is the landscape in which he will take the top job.
AllianceBernstein’s announcement said Bernstein will remain on the board after nearly a decade as CEO. The sequence is carefully staged: the incoming leader is already inside the operating conversation, the outgoing CEO remains available to the board, and the formal title changes after a defined transition period.
