Michael Steib will become chief executive officer of Angi Inc., replacing Jeff Kip effective immediately after the digital home-services marketplace appointed him to lead its next phase. Angi announced the change on September 22, and Bloomberg reported that the move is designed to put a stronger focus on artificial intelligence. Kip will remain as an adviser for six months to support the handoff.
The transition is immediate, but it is not a blank-sheet arrival. Steib joined Angi’s board in August and will remain a director while taking responsibility for strategy and daily management. Joey Levin, who moved from executive chairman to chairman, said the incoming CEO brings digital-product experience and energy at a moment when the company is trying to move from turnaround to growth.
From media platforms to home services
Steib most recently served as president and CEO of TEGNA, which was acquired by Nexstar in March. Before that, he led Artsy and XO Group, the parent of The Knot. Angi’s announcement points to a career built around category-defining digital products, efficient teams and business models that can scale; Steib said he wants to use AI to make the marketplace better for homeowners and service professionals, while seeking near-term profitability upside.
Kip leaves after leading Angi through a difficult period across the economic and digital landscape. The company credited him with integrating product and technology platforms, expanding margins and supporting growth. The handoff therefore pairs a defined transition role for the outgoing CEO with a clear operating brief for the incoming one. It follows Joanne Wilson’s move from WPP to Diageo’s finance seat, another example of a leadership change framed around the next operating phase rather than a ceremonial reset.
