Simeon Kohl and Health Catalyst have begun a new leadership chapter, with Kohl taking the roles of chief executive officer, president and board member effective September 14. Ben Albert, the company’s previous CEO and president, is moving to chief business officer and stepped down from the board on September 13.

Kohl most recently led Performant Healthcare, where he oversaw a period of strategic and operational transformation that culminated in the company’s sale to Machinify for about $670 million. Health Catalyst said he brings more than 20 years of healthcare experience across operations, growth and public-company leadership. Healthcare Dive described him as the company’s third CEO this year, following Albert’s February move into the role after longtime CEO Dan Burton retired.

The sequence makes the mandate unusually clear. Kohl is not arriving simply to protect continuity; he is being asked to lead the next phase of operating performance. Health Catalyst says it is an AI-forward healthcare intelligence company with nearly two decades of proprietary data behind $2.8 billion in documented outcomes. Its board presented Kohl’s experience and operating discipline as a fit for the opportunities ahead.

Albert’s new role is equally important. He will continue working with Kohl and the leadership team as chief business officer, preserving context from the period in which Health Catalyst sharpened its technology focus, divested Vitalware and retired an approximately $160 million credit facility. That arrangement separates the CEO mandate from ongoing business-development and strategic continuity without severing the relationship.

The business backdrop is demanding. Healthcare Dive reported that Health Catalyst is working through revenue headwinds tied to the Vitalware sale and customer migrations while doubling down on artificial intelligence. A new CEO therefore inherits a company with a strong mission and data asset, but also a need to translate those assets into repeatable growth and measurable operating performance.

The next test will be whether Kohl can make the company’s transformation legible to customers, employees and investors. Watch for decisions on AI investment, commercial focus, balance-sheet discipline and the pace at which the leadership team turns a documented-outcomes story into a durable operating model. The appointment is a bet on experienced transformation leadership; execution will decide whether the bet earns time.
