Adam Madigan will become chief executive officer of BISSELL on October 1, moving up from president and chief operating officer after 14 years with the family-owned home and floor-care company. Mark Bissell, who stepped down as CEO in 2025, will remain executive chairman.
The transition keeps the Bissell family involved while placing a longtime operator in the top seat. Madigan joined BISSELL in 2012 as global director of hard surface, later became senior vice president of sales and marketing, and took on the president and COO role in 2025.
Building on a 150-year operating legacy
BISSELL’s announcement said Madigan will lead the company as it pursues growth through innovation and builds on its 150-year legacy. Max Bissell will remain president of global product and report to Madigan, keeping the family’s product perspective in the operating structure.
WOODTV reported that Madigan’s mandate includes accelerating innovation, strengthening the business and building on BISSELL’s legacy. The West Michigan report also quoted Mark Bissell saying that Madigan understands the company’s people, business and the families it serves.
Vacuum Wars described the appointment as an internal transition rather than a change in ownership or family involvement. That distinction matters for a fifth-generation company entering its 150th anniversary year: the handoff changes the operator at the top while preserving the family’s active role and the existing direction around product development and acquisitions.
